Summary of Chapter 9 of Unspun - Performance

In this chapter Dawn Dietrich descibes the aspect of "performance" on the web. In the new of the Web, the definition of what performance actually means. Viewers can no longer truely attend a live performance, since the concept of "live" has now become part of the visual media. Sites suchs as the Survival Research Laboarties show actual liv performances that users can vitually attend. However, online viewers cannot really claim they have attned this performance but they have witnessed it.
There is also the case of the "cyber-rape." In which normally innocent activity on a performance website went horribly wrong. A user named "Mr. Bungle" used the technology of the web to force other users to preform sexually acts they would not otherwise participate in on the web. This however posed the interesting question of wether or not a crime was actually commited. Since the actions did not take place in the real world but rather, in the vitual one.
