Triangulation - NY Times Article
Governance, Political Economy, Ideology
"Web of the Free" deals with the concept of the governtment's right to control the internet. Currently, the United States mainly controls the Web but there is a movement about other countries to gain more control and regulate what can be found on the web. This however, could be complicated due to the differently ideolodies of each county. For example, the article states that the Chinese government wants to restict websites that have controversital political subjects such as "liberty" or "Faulan Gong."
Currently the organization known as ICANN controls all of the websites ever created. The article states that the Commerce department has never overrulled a decision made by the organization. Other countries would like there to be some sort of international opinions in ICANN decisions but each country ultimatly has its own political agenda. It would be extrememly difficult for the political economies and ideologies of other countries to all come together in one form of governance.
Since the web was created using American technology, it makes sence that it would mainly be controled by an american organizations. Other countries might want to censor or control the web more to fit their own ideologies.
